Changing a bridge or gluing dozens of cracks on a top of an instrument, the work of a restorer is extensive and exciting. We can divide it in three different parts:
1º The maintenance and adjustment of sonority: An instrument is a medium the musician uses to create his art. there are things that can be done to improve the sonority or the sensation in the hands of the musician.
2º The repair: It happens that an instrument has a small accident or has not been played for a while. It can be opened to repair a crack or change a broken neck
3º The restoration: When an instrument has been abandoned for many years, it can be in deplorable state: eaten by woodworms or mice, with cracks or missing parts. The restorer has to be patient and work months on the same instrument; but he also has to reflect about how to maintain its integrity.
